Sometimes, we don't realize how hard it is to live with a disease that will hit 70,000 to 129,000 new cases this year. Epilepsy is a disorder characterized by recurrent and unprovoked seizures and temporary impairment of brain function. There is currently no known cure. More than two million people, or one percent of the population in the United States have epilepsy.
On Monday, April 2, at the weekly Austintown Rotary Club Meeting, Janet Nau representing the Mahoning Valley Epilepsy Fund, Inc. told of some of the problems associated with Epilepsy in the hope that helping to educate the community about seizure recognition and first aid will assist everyone. Their mission is to establish resources for the community to improve the quality of life of individuals and families affected by seizures through awareness, education and advocacy.
