Dan is now a husband and soon to be a father. He is heading up the "AWE" Foundation (Action for Water Education). "El Progresso" is the name of the village he is helping. The people have had clear drinking water now for 3 years, a high school for 6 years, and electricity for 9 years. They currently have 5 university scholarships that pay $1,000.00 per year per student. Dan is also now helping a 2nd village (San Phillipe) which is a 2 hour walk from El Progresso (6 miles away). It costs $1,000.00 per family in the village to have water. They have built a warehouse, a well, a holding tank, pipes, motors, and drills. The government of El Salvador takes care of the cost of electricity within the village. They currently need $31,000.00 to pay this project off. Dan is also begining to help start another village on their water project.
Our next Rotary Meeting is January 8th. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Holidays, Happy Quanza and whatever else you might be c celebrating over the next 2 weeks!!
