Beatitude House speaks at Austintown Rotary.The Rotary Club of Austintown welcomed Teresa Boyce to speak on homeless families in the Mahoning Valley.Their Mission Statement: Beatitude House, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters, is committed to disadvantaged women and children in the Mahoning Valley. By creating homes, providing educational opportunities and fostering healthy families, we provide them with the opportunity to transform their lives.In 1988 Ursuline Sister Margaret Sheetz believing that education and counseling are the best ways out of poverty established Beatitude House, a housing program. They give mothers the support they need on the hard journey toward independence. It has grown from 4 to 31 apartments and 2 education and career preparation sites in both Warren and Youngstown. 80% of their funding goes directly to services, and 100% of funding remains in the Mahoning Valley.
The meeting was called to order by President Brian Laraway, with invocation and pledge by Gary Reel. Visitors were John Morvay, from Canfield, and Teresa Boyce from Beatitude House and our guest speaker. Hillary was song leader, "R-O-T-A-R-Y". Tony actually thought we did a good job. Gary did his "joke" and lightened the mood sufficiently. ROTARY MINUTE: Chuck Baker did a Rotary minute and asked where did we recently hear the quote "he profits most who serves the best"? Answer: in the song R-O-T-A-R-Y. INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: Toby Mirto gave an inspirational quote from Thomas Jefferson in a letter to James Madison in 1787: "The people are the only sure reliance for the Preservation of our Liberty." ANNOUNCEMENTS:• the GSE Team is being formed, if we have any nominees aged 25-40 who are not Rotarians, Hank Conrad from Poland will be the group leader. • Monday, September 28 Rescue Mission. List being passed around • He also reminded us to see Brian Frederick if a member needs some extra time or a payment plan involving dues or meals, we don't want to lose anyone for that. • The Laraway signup list is being passed around.
