PROGRAM: Dr. Mitch Dalvin on the Rotary Foundation

Our Club had the pleasure of hearing from one of its own members, Dr. Mitch Dalvin, who spoke on the benefits of the Rotary Foundation.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, good will and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviating of poverty.

The 90-year old Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

After 20 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating polio in the world. The mission is 99% completed.  A recent challenge/grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for $100 million may result in $200 million which will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.

The Foundation also supports local Clubs with their projects. The Shelter Boxes developed into a project whereby containers are sent to areas of disaster and the contents able to support 10 families. These were used by Katrina victims and are in demand around the world.

Dr. Dalvin is a 24 year veteran of the Austintown Club and has been in practice for 25 years.
